MEET THE TEACHER

Welcome Parents/Guardians and Students,

I am Teacher Mae Brian. I teach Math and Science to Grades 6 and 7. This is my fourth year at CRIS and my 27th year of teaching in an international school in Thailand. I am originally from the Philippines.

Every school year is exciting for all of us. I feel privileged to work in a setting where teachers, parents, and students all collaborate to create a wonderful community. You will need to be an active participant in your child’s education throughout the year—helping with assignments, providing school supplies, reviewing grade work, communicating with all teachers, and continuously encouraging acceptable school behaviors.

In this class, students are encouraged to strive for greater independence. Organizational and study skills are highly stressed. Expectedly, the class will stretch students’ social interactions and challenge their academic strengths and weaknesses. Because your child is maturing, an open communication timeline between home and school is vital.

LEARNING and TEACHING APPROACH

The learning approach will be Blended Learning. It is a method of teaching and learning in which students learn via electronic and online media as well as traditional face-to-face teaching. Instead of learning only from the teacher, and only interacting with their peers, students also engage with technology to meet learning goals.

Blended learning combines in-person teaching with online learning methods. So, learners can listen to a lecture in a classroom and then take an online quiz right there or at home.

This will require a student to have 1:1 access to an electronic device, usually a laptop

ACTIVITY: Learners work on projects in groups or independently.

FACE-TO-FACE APPROACH: Learners meet in the classroom to collaborate and contribute to the project.

TO MAKE IT BLENDED: Learners use channels in Google CLASSROOMS, online communities, and task managers to plan their work and control the flow. They also use file-sharing services (e.g., Google Docs, Slides, Classroom) to collaborate and share feedback on the project.
